I’d like to introduce a new category on the VogelWorks blog that I will frequently write about: Human Theory. This is an important topic to me, and I think it deserves an explanation.
I’ve been alive long enough to identify some defining characteristics of myself. Here’s one: I’m always studying people, trying to understand why they do the things they do. I’ve naturally done this for a long time, and I’ve had a lot of great settings for this purpose: playing on many sports teams, living in an immediate family of eight, my fraternity, school projects. We all have great opportunities.
Some people refer to the practice as “people watching.” That phrase has always sounded a little strange to me. In my mind, it’s simply paying attention to the people around us. Most of us encounter people every day (or at least ourselves), understanding the human condition can only make us better, more effective people.
That’s what Human Theory is about: just paying attention to ourselves and others, and building our intuitions on the human condition. The great thing about this topic is that everyone can comment and contribute. I look forward to your thoughts. Think carefully and share.
